The start of CS3216

I faintly recall an email on 30th, Sept 2007:

Hi everyone,

For your information, I am proposing to start a new Facebook programming course next Semester.

Key learning objectives:
  • Train students to pick up a new programming platform on the fly (similar to the CVWO project - http://www.comp.nus.edu.sg/vwo)
  • Encourage creativity and entrepreneurship among our students
  • Train students in presentation skills (students will have to present their projects)
  • Help students pad their resumes - students can put down Facebook programming in their resumes, and Facebook is the most hip thing happening at the moment. :-)
Should be fun. ;-P Course will be light on lectures, maybe 3 x 2-hour lectures at the beginning. The rest of the course will be structured as 3 x simple team projects + 1 x final project. No exams. Assessment based on project work only. This is only the preliminary idea and is subject to change. Enrolment will be limited for this first offer, maybe 30-40 students (I will be teaching CS3243 (AI) concurrently so might not be able to cope lah). :-)

I welcome any ideas and suggestions from you. Also, if you would be interest to sign up for the proposed 3-MC module, pls holler so that I can get as sense of the student interest/demand. Thanks!

Warmest Regards,

Ben
